1:1 Tutoring

Each session is individualized to fit your child's specific needs and goals. Sessions are prepared in advance with careful consideration and can be modified to accommodate day-to-day goals. At Tutors for Tally, we believe that communication is key! When our tutors are able to work closely alongside teachers and parents, it makes a significant improvement in the student's success. At Tutors for Tally, we strive to provide a fun-filled environment. In order to keep students motivated to do their bests, we have a reward which allows students to earn prizes at the end of each session, and even bigger prizes pon achieving long-term goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect at my child's initial session?

You will be asked to fill out an intake form, policies and procedures form, and a consent form. You and your child will be introduced to their tutor, and you will have a chance to talk to them about any concerns. If you give us permission, we will offer your child a snack or water at the beginning of every session. During our initial session we will assess your child to determine what we can do to best help them.

What should I bring to my child's initial session?

How long will the initial session be?

The initial session will last a total of 60 minutes.

Will my child receive an assessment, and how much extra does it cost?

During our initial session we will assess your child to determine what will be the most effective method to help them. If your child needs support in multiple subject areas, it may take more than one session to assess their needs. Often times parents spend hundreds of dollars on assessments that use up hours of their child’s time. At TFT we believe that assessments are essential to get a baseline and set goals for the student; however, we will be strategic in what we assess so that we can begin tutoring as soon as possible. An assessment is included with the initial fee.

What if I don't think my child needs an assessment?

If your child is attending TFT for enrichment, homework support, or study skills, an assessment may not be necessary. This will be discussed with the parent before the initial session is scheduled.

When will I see an improvement in my child's skills?

Every child is different and requires a different amount of support before progress is seen. Often times, parents report seeing a difference in their child's academic abilities and confidence within the first month of their child attending weekly sessions.

How many sessions does my child need to attend?

This is ultimately up to you. We typically will not know the exact answer to this question until your child has attended 2-3 tutoring sessions. Every child has a different rate of acquisition and we cater to that. Typically, a child that is below grade level would need a minimum of 2 sessions a week until they are caught up.

How will I receive feedback about my child's needs and progress?

During the initial session, we will sit down with you and make sure we gather all the information needed in order to create goals for your child. We will determine how often your child will benefit from tutoring, and whether you would like for us to send home supporting materials.

Do you communicate with my child's teachers?

Yes, we believe communication is one of the most important elements in getting your child the help they need. With your consent, we email teachers to ensure that we are getting up-to-date information on your child’s needs.

Do you attend any school meetings?

Yes, we will attend one meeting a year for free*. This meeting can be an IEP, 504, or a regular teacher conference. We know meetings can sometimes be intimidating, especially when they are about important decisions about your child. Our staff has experience attending these meetings and they can assist you and support you and your child.

*Your child must have attended or pre-paid for 6 sessions.
